Back in the summer of 2020, our family moved into my grandmas’s farmhouse south of Swift Current…I call it a farmhouse because it’s on a farm yard but really the house was built in 1964 and has more of a mid-century vibe than what you think of when you hear ‘farmhouse’.
Inspired by the warmth + subtlety of the Mediterranean and combined with our signature Prairie style, this pretty bathroom checks all the boxes for our clients who came to us looking to completely transform their {very} small ensuite + outdated main floor bathroom.
It’s been awhile since I’ve written a more personal post so I’m not sure what’s more surprising - the fact that I actually blogged (!) or the news I’m going to share but here goes...
My husband and I have recently decided we are moving! We’re moving to my grandma’s 1960’s bungalow farmhouse on an acreage south of the city - the house is small but it’s got a huge yard for our son + a garden plot I can’t wait to get my hands on - and while we’ve been getting our home ready for sale, I thought I’d share some tips on how you can put your best foot forward when it comes to listing your home for sale.
It’s that time of year again: we’re counting down your favourite #farmersdaughterflatlay posts of 2020, on Instagram that is! We hope you stay tuned for more prairie modern finishes, tones, and textures in 2021.
Changes to the kitchen can be some of most dramatic transformations you’ll see in a home renovation and our ‘Farmhouse Refresh’ project is no exception. What started as a drab + dysfunctional space has been completely revamped into a fresh-feeling farmhouse kitchen with an air of timelessness that will serve our clients for years to come on their family farm.
Flatlay Fridays have become one of our favourite end-of-the-week traditions + its one we will bringing with us into 2020. We love showing you what inspires us - palettes + textures that are found from living life on the prairie.
You don’t see a lot of personal posts around here but this one is extra special - you may know that my husband Shayne and I recently had our first baby, a boy, Cyrus, this past July. Today on the blog we’re sharing a look into the Prairie-inspired nursery I designed for him along with so many sources for all my favourite things.

Read below to see how the concept grew from a photo I snapped on the way to a client meeting into a unique color palette that feels both classic and contemporary.
We love a good bathroom remodel here at FDI, especially when we get to share a ‘before and after’ with you!
As one of the most frequently used spaces in a home, a bathroom remodel affects daily life in such a positive way. Just think about how much time we actually spend in our bathrooms in a given week. Crazy, right? Although they can be a bit of extra work and sort of a pain to remodel, we think it’s well worth it!
FLATLAY FRIDAY // is a tradition that started during 2018 and is one that will continue into 2019. We love showing you what materials, colours + textures we are using in our projects, and we love dreaming up concepts from the smallest things that inspire us.

This Friday Round Up is inspired by the beginning of fall! It always seems to be our shortest season (it’s already snowing in parts of Canada!) so maybe that’s why we feel the need to jump in heels first and change our decor, wardrobe + Starbucks order.

This introduction is long overdue since this lovely lady has been a part of the Farmer's Daughter team for some time now. Meet Indiana! "I made the move to a brick-and-mortar design studio just over six months ago, .... However, my dream of having my own design studio began way, way before then. Back in 2009 or 2010, oddly while I was in the middle of a Financial Services degree from Mount Royal University in Calgary, AB, I started dreaming about my own interior design business…”

Located in the upper floor of a century-old home, this bathroom had been renovated once before and was stuck in the Seventies. Our clients craved a fresh look, but one that still honoured the home's historic bones.

I've been noticing this versatile material all over the design world lately and after a recent trip to Europe, I'm even more convinced that terrazzo is back for a more refined round two. Don't believe me? Have a look at how some of today's most talented architects and designers are using terrazzo in ultra modern installations + product design.
Nestled in the hills of Topanga Canyon, a mere thirty minutes from Los Angeles, is an everyday oasis from the hustle of city life. I've adored the home of artist + General Store founder Serena Mitnik-Miller since the moment I laid eyes on it.

With full-on spring weather right around the corner, we've been thinking about making some small exterior updates to our home to amp up the curb appeal. It seems like my project agenda is always long but a new front step and railings top the list for us this spring. However, you don't need to order a cement truck to improve the look of your home. In fact, it can be pretty simple. Here are five ways to start this spring:
When I came across this tutorial on Alice and Lois, I just had to try making these marbled Easter eggs because honestly, it looked totally do-able. The whole process only took a few minutes and I love how festive they look piled in a bowl on my island.
TREND WATCH
Woven products are certainly not a new face to interior design but today's designs are decidedly more contemporary and are definitely 'having a moment' right now in new collections of furniture, lighting, and home goods.

One of the things I love about design (or any creative field, really) is the fact that inspiration is everywhere - especially if we look for it. However, in our hectic lives it's hard to slow down, notice the little things, and find joy in simplicity. So...this week I actually took a short break in the middle of the day to get outside and appreciate the beauty of one of my favorite things about springtime in Saskatchewan - lilacs!

I can't help but notice design is all around us. Whether we look to God's creation of nature, stunning feats of architecture, or human expressions of art for inspiration, the design of every thing around us influences how we live + interact. Great design is just as much about how a space lives as how it looks.
There's almost nothing I love more than helping people create a home that looks great but more importantly, lives well. I hope you enjoy following along with what's inspiring me, design tips + tricks, current project happenings, + maybe the odd D-I-Y as I navigate through the journey of running an interior design business in beautiful, small town Saskatchewan.

Read on for how we worked with our clients to bring this renovation to completion.
